I feel I must end this Report on somewhat of a sad note as there will
be little time between the end of 1973 and April 1st 1974, when the Council
will lose all its personal health services, to prepare a full report. I am
sure the whole department would wish me to thank the Hackney Council for its
co-operation and help since the inception of the London Borough in April
1965. The Council has helped us in every respect to improve the health
services that a local authority could provide for the residents of the
borough: they have helped us to pioneer many schemes: they have helped to
sustain out work on many occasions: they have helped to sustain individual
members of the staff through a sympathetic attitude when there has been
occasion. Although change cannot be avoided there are few in the Health
Department who will not look back on their service with the Hackney Borough
Council with gratitude. We trust that the Hackney Borough Council feels
that we have served it at least to the best of our ability, and I can only
ask that in respect of our work done it will be a case of 'de mortuis nil
nisi bonum.'
I am, Mr. Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
ROWLAND GWYN DAVIES
