During the year 42 notifications of accidents were received, 39 were of a
minor nature but there were three serious accidents, one of them fatal. In no
instance was it found that the accident resulted from a breach of the Act. 81
Notices were served upon occupiers of premises who failed to comply with the
requirements of the Act but in only two instances was it necessary to institute
legal proceedings and fines totalling £12 with £8 costs were imposed. The
Public Health Inspectors made a total of 1, 857 visits.
