Early in 1966 the redevelopment of the Somerford Grove area, N.16., provided
this Council with an opportunity to build an ad hoc Centre on the estate to replace
the present West Hackney Centre. Consultations took place with the Inner
London Education Authority, Inner London Executive Council, Inner London Local
Medical Committee and local doctors. Following these it was agreed to incorporate
additional interviewing rooms which could be used by general
practitioners. Several local general practitioners have expressed an active
interest in using this accommodation. Because of the diverse use of the
premises, the building will be designated a Health Centre under Section 21 of
the National Health Service Act, 1946.
At the end of the year the proposed building had reached the planning
stage.
