HOUSING
HOUSING ACT, 1957
Action as set out hereunder was taken under the relevant pro visions of the
Housing Act, 1957:-
PART II
(Provisions for securing the repair, maintenance and
sanitary conditions of houses)
SECTION 4 (Definition of Standard of Fitness). This Section enacts that in
determining for any of the purposes of this act whether a house is unfit for
human habitation, regard shall be had to its condition in respect of the
following matters, that is to say -
(a) repair;
(b) stability;
(c) freedom from damp;
(d) natural lighting;
(e) ventilation;
(f) water supply;
(g) drainage and sanitary conveniences;
(h) facilities for storage, preparation and
cooking of food and for the disposal of
waste water;
and the house shall be deemed to be unfit for human habitation if and only if
it is so far defective in one or more of the said matters that it is not
reasonably suitable for occupation in that condition.
SECTION 18 (Power to make a closing order as to part of a building). Closing
Orders to the number of 71 were made involving parts of premises at 45 addresses
as follows:-
(a) Individual Underground rooms (W)
53 Alkham Road - Basement back left-hand room, (owner failed to
comply with Undertaking to carry out works).
17 Clapton Common - Basement front room.
146 Clapton Common - Basement back inner room, the basement back outer
room and the basement back addition room.
17 Dunsmure Road - Basement back left-hand room and basement back
right-hand room.
39. 39a, Durley Road - Basement front room.
61 Eastway - Basement front room and basement back East and
West rooms.
117 Elderfield Road - Basement front and back rooms.
12 Glaserton Road - Basement front and back rooms.
101 Glenarm Road - Basement back and back addition rooms.
33 Knightland Road - Basement front room.
71 Kyverdale Road - Basement back room.
66 Linthorpe Road - Basement front room.
