MATERNAL MORTALITY There were seven deaths from causes associated with
pregnancy or childbirth, certified as follows -
Age Cause of Death
19 Toxaemia of pregnancy. Acute appendicitis.
20 Pulmonary Embolus. Cyesis (8 weeks)
24 Respiratory failure during anaesthesia for caesarian section.
Haemorrhagic broncho pneumonia with myocarditis.
32 Rupture of the uterus during labour
39 Cardiac failure due to anaesthesia for induction of labour.
Specific myocarditis. Toxaemia of pregnancy.
40 Amniotic Embolus. Induction of labour at full term.
43 Carcinomatosis due to carcinoma of breast. Operation and
termination of pregnancy.
The cause of death in,five of these cases was classified under the
Registrar General s cause group for Pregnancy childbirth, abortion

68 years | Fibrosis of the liver due to chronic infective hepatitis. |
Females - 73 years | Fibrosis of the liver due to old infective hepatitis. |
76 years | Erysipelas. Generalised carcinomatosis. |
76 years | Cerebral haemorrhage, Haematemesis from oesophageal varices. Portal hypertension Hepatic cirrhosis due to viral hepatitis |
