(f) THE FAMILY PLANNING ASSOCIATION continued to hold clinics on Monday and
Wednesday evenings at the London County Council Welfare Centre situated at 28,
Lower Clapton Road E. 5.
(g) HACKNEY AND STOKE NEWINGTON DEANERY MORAL WELFARE ASSOCIATION. This
Association is affiliated to the London Diocesan Council for Moral Welfare Work.
"During the past year 211 new cases have been helped, as against 206 for the
same period last year. There were 172 Maternity cases which, together with
the after care of 21 mothers and babies made a total of 193 and the rest were
Matrimonial and Personal Problems. Most of the Maternity cases were between
the ages of 15 and 23 and 38 of the girls went into Mother and Baby Homes.
Of the 172 Maternity cases 25 babies went for adoption. 4 into Residential
Nurseries and 12 to be cared for by Poster Parents Six girls married the
Putative Fathers and kept their babies and the rest are living in accommodation
of their own, or in the homes of relatives." The Hackney Borough Council made
a grant of £20 to this Association
(h) BRITISH HOME FOR DEAF AND DUMB WOMEN This home at 26 Clapton Conmon,
Upper Clapton. E. 5, .housed 22 deaf and dumb residents. Eleven of the residents
spent a fortnight s holiday at the Clapton Mission Holiday Home at Heme Bay,
and nine had holidays with relatives.
(i) FAMILY WELFARE ASSOCIATION, Area 4 of this Association covers the City
of London and eight London Boroughs including Hackney. Some 425 cases were
dealt with and 78 of these were in Hackney.
(j) ST MARY S STAMFORD HILL. This Home run by a community of Anglican
nuns provides accommodation for 22 unmarried mothers and their babies. "During
the past year 73 girls have been discharged. Four girls got married and 16
took their babies home 15 babies went to Residential Nurseries. 9 to foster
mothers and 21 were adopted. Two girls with their babies went to Hostels and
2 babies remained in Hospital one baby was stillborn and 3 girls left before
the birth of their baby, "
(k) ST FRANCIS HOME OF REST 155 Richmond Road E. 8 This nursing home
provided accommodation for 17 bedridden women
(1) JOEL EMANUEL ALMSHOUSES Egerton Road N 16 These Almshouses are
administered by the Board of Guardians and Trustees for the Relief of Jewish
Poor They provide accommodation for 44 persons including married couples
and single women or widows There is a resident caretaker
(m) SALVATION ARMY The following three establishments in the Borough
are provided by the Salvation Army
"Crossways" 9 Amhurst Park Stamford Hill N. 16,, which provides accommodation
for 26 unmarried mothers and for 19 babies Some 75 cases were discharged.
"Lanark House", 13. Laura Place Clapton E, 5 This hostel makes provision
for 20 girls aged 15 to 18 years and some 40 were accommodated.
"St. Oswald" 2, Lampard Grove Stamford Hill, N. 16 This young women s
residence with accommodation for 17 persons admitted 28 persons during the
year.
