Motor Vehicle. The 8 lives lost as a result of motor vehicle accidents fell into the following age and sex groups:-

Males-1½ years Inhalation of gastric contents.
5 years Immersion. Fall in river.
9 years Fractured skull. Fell from tree while climbing.
19 years Asphyxia due to drowning in swimming pool.
33 years Pulmonary embolism due to phlebo-thrombosis of deep leg
veins, due to abdominal trauma (laparotomy). Struck
by electric chain saw.
33 years Cerebral contusion due to multiple fractures of skull.
Driving a mechanical shovel which overturned.
40 years Drowning. Fresh water swimming pool.
48 years Fractured spine with crushing of cord. Inebriation.
Fall from height.
50 years Broncho pneumonia due to carbon monoxide poisoning from
products of combustion of paraffin space heater.
59 years Pulmonary embolus due to phlebo-thrombosis following
injury. Fell through fragile roof.
79 years Acute endocarditis (streptococcus foecalis) due to
burning of foot-hot water.
Females-2 years Carbon monoxide poisoning due to inhalation of fire
fumes: burns. House on fire.
3 years Carbon monoxide poisoning due to inhalation of fire
fumes, burns. House on fire.
54 years Uraemia. Bilateral pyelonephritis. Paraplegia after
lumbar spinal osteotomy in January 1960 Traumatic
spinal arthritis following a fall from a bus.
65 years Pulmonary embolus. Cut down right leg. Pernicious anaemia.
67 years Poisoning by a barbiturate drug while suffering from
carcinoma of the bronchus.
67 years Bilateral pulmonary embolism. Right femoral vein
thrombosis. Left lateral cerebral sinus thrombosis.
Myocardial degeneration. Immobility in bed. Minor fall.
76 years Hypostatic pneumonia due to subdural haematoma, from
a fall to floor.
