VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS
NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE ACT, 1946
PART II (Hospital and Specialis t Services). The North-East Metropolitan
Regional Hospital Board is the authority responsible for the provision of
hospital and specialist services in this area; the day-to-day administration
of the hospitals is in the hands of two local Management Committees:-

This Committee also administers the Hackney Physical Treatment Centre at
Dalston Lane, E. 8, and it co-operates with the County Council in the provision
of Ophthalmic Clinics for School Children at 13, Goulton Road, E„ 5, and 29,
Cadogan Terrace, E, 9,
Central Group (No. 5) Hospital Management Committee. The Metropolitan
Hospital, with a complement of 146 general medical and surgical beds, is the
only hospital of this Group in the Borough. The services provided include a
Chest Clinic for the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis, and a Centre
for the diagnosis and treatment of Venereal Diseases.
PART III (Health Services provided by Local Health Authorities). The London
County Council, as the local health authority, provides the following services:
SECTION 22 (Care of mothers and young children). The six maternity and child
welfare centres in Hackney are sited as follows:-

28, Elsdale Street, E. 9,
28, Lower Clapton Road, E. 5.
136, Richmond Road, E. 8.
186, Upper Clapton Road, E.5.
St Paul's Church Hall, Evering Road, N. 16.
In addition to infant welfare consultations which are held at all centres,
ante natal and post-natal sessions are held at Elsdale Street, Lower Clapton
Road, Richmond Road and Upper Clapton Road, and dental services for expectant
and nursing mothers and pre school children are provided at Lower Clapton Road
and Richmond Road At the Elsdale Street and Richmond Road Centres
Physiotherapy and artificial sunlight treatments are available, and foot clinics
are also held at both these Centres. A weekly Family Planning Session is held
at Richmond Road Centre.
