(b) Routine Visits
In addition to the major survey, routine visits were made to the Mothers'
Hospital and Hackney Hospital for the examination of expectant mothers and
hospital staff. The Unit also visited Queen Elizabeth Hospital for the routine
X-ray examination of staff, and Hackney Generating Station, The following
tables show the centres visited, the numbers examined, and details of the
various age groups examined.

(The above tables include 108 persons at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, which is
in the Borough of Bethnal Green).
The incidence of active tuberculosis in the expectant mother and hospital
staff groups was very low.
You will have observed from my report on the major survey that the overall
rate of active tuberculosis was 1,64 per thousand examined. This shows a
slight increase on the rate discovered in the 1955 major survey which was 1.46
per thousand. *
