SCARLET FEVER. Notifications of this disease numbered 90 as compared with
130 in the previous year and 81 in 1955; 31 cases were admitted to hospital

SMALLPOX. A clinical diagnosis of Acute Haemorrhagic Smallpox was made
in the case of a woman aged 72 years, who was admitted to the Eastern Hospital
on July 4th from a neighbouring Borough.
WHOOPING COUGH. The number of cases notified was 179 as compared with 395
in 1956 and 295 in 1955.

PUBLIC HEALTH BACTERIOLOGY Some 1 772 specimens were submitted for examination to the Public Health Laboratory, and were reported on as follows:
