Homicide (Infanticide). There was one case of infanticide, a male
child aged 11 months. The cause of death was certified as coal gas
poisoning. The mother was charged with murder, and was found guilty of
infanticide.
Coronary disease, angina pectoris. Deaths classified under this cause
group totalled 315, or approximately 17 per cent. of the total deaths
for the year. There were 277 deaths from this disease in 1955 and 291
in 1954. Comparative death rates per 1,000 population from this
disease over the last seven years are as follows:-
