ADULTERATION OF FOOD.

There was no reduction in the number of samples taken for analysis, which included

(a) Formal Samples:—Genuine.Adulterated.Total.

Legal proceedings were taken as regards one of the adulterated
milk samples, and the case was dismissed under the Probation of
Offenders' Act, £2 2s. 0d. costs being imposed.
£10 10s. 0d. costs were imposed following the sale of a loaf of
bread which was found to be unfit for human consumption.
The average composition of all formal milk samples taken
during the year was 3.4 per cent. milk fat and 8.82 per cent. solids
not fat. Milk should contain not less than 3 per cent. milk fat and
8.5 per cent. solids not fat.
