The names and addresses of 103 persons remained on the
Council's list of persons entitled to sell poisons under Part 2 of the
Pharmacy and Poisons Act, 1938. No action was necessary in
respect of any offence under the Act.
ADULTERATION OF FOOD.
There was no reduction in the number of samples taken for analysis, which included

Warnings were given to the vendors of 8 of the adulterated
formal samples and legal proceedings were taken as regards
two samples of ginger cordial and one of lemon squash. In one
case the summons was not successful and in the other two cases
fines totalling £6 with £5 5s. costs were imposed.
There were again several complaints of milk being supplied in
dirty bottles, and proceedings were taken in three instances for
selling milk which was unfit for food and for failing to keep a milk
vessel in a state of thorough cleanliness. Convictions were secured
in all cases, fines amounting to £29 and costs totalling £7 7s. being
imposed.
The average composition of all formal milk samples taken
during the year was 3.4 per cent, milk fat and 8.97 per cent, solids
not fat.
