The number of expectant mothers attending at the clinics was
slightly smaller than in the previous year (1,155 as compared with
1,288) and there was a considerable decrease in the total attendances
(from 7,466 to 6,465). This falling-off was, of course, due to the
flying bomb attack in the second half of the year, when many
expectant mothers evacuated to safer areas under the official
scheme or through private arrangements.
