INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The deaths of 107 children under the age of twelve months were
allocated to Hackney by the Registrar-General during 1942. This
number of deaths gives an infantile mortality rate of 44.82 per 1,000
live births, the rate for England and Wales being 49 and for London
60.
The causes of death are set out in the following table :—

MATERNAL MORTALITY.
During 1942 there was 1 death from Puerperal Sepsis and 2
from other causes directly connected with childbirth. These deaths
represent a death-rate of 1.22 per 1,000 total births as compared
with a rate for England and Wales of 2.01.
