to the Cleansing Station by the Factory Medical Service. Factory
workers form a large proportion of the adult patients treated, and
a routine periodical medical inspection of factory workers, if practicable,
would assist very largely in reducing the incidence of
scabies. Presumably these workers are performing fire-watching
duties at their place of business or elsewhere and using bedding in
common with other persons.
However, a steady increase in the incidence of scabies had been
noted for some years prior to the war so that the abnormal conditions
resulting from the war cannot alone provide an explanation of this
problem which has, for some time past, been receiving consideration
by the Medical Research Council.
