PROVISION OF MILK AND OTHER FOODS TO
NECESSITOUS MOTHERS AND CHILDREN.
During the year under review 7,201 applications were received
from 1,710 families for grants of milk, free or at less than cost
price, under the Council's maternitv and child welfare scheme.

Under an arrangement between the Cc-uncil and the London
County Council the cost of milk supplied under the Council's
scheme to families in receipt of help from the Public Assistance
Committee is reclaimed from the County Council. The sum repaid
by the County Council to the Borough Council in respect of grants
made during 1939 amounted to £227 12s. 9d.
In addition to the cow's milk and dried milk supplied free of
cost or at a reduced price, dried milk is supplied at the Infant
Welfare Centres at cost price, whilst other food?, medicines, etc.,
are supplied free of cost or at cost price. Det' ils of the sale of
