Section 7 of the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1926,
requires the registration of every still-born child. The number of
still-births registered during the year as having occurred to Hackney
women was 96. This represents a rate for the Borough of 0.46 per
1,000 of the population, as compared with 0.48 for London as a
whole.
The total number of births of illegitimate infants born to
Hackney mothers and registered during the year 1938 was 125
(114 living and 11 still-born children). This is equivalent to an
illegitimate birth-rate of 43.9 per 1,000 total births.
