The Council's Bacteriologist did a great deal of work in connection
with the foods suspected, numerous cultures were prepared
and agglutination tests carried out with the organisms of the food
poisoning group, this work extending over a period of three weeks.
The difficulty in isolating the food poisoning organism from
the cultures was increased by the presence of a iarge number of
spore bearing bacilli, proteus and paracolons, but finally an
organism giving a low agglutination to B. Aertrycke was isolated.
Notwithstanding the severity of the attack, eight of the
patients were discharged from hospital within twelve days and the
two remaining patients a few days later.
