During the year the licence in respect of one of the cow-houses
in the Borough lapsed, the proprietor having ceased to carry on the
business. This leaves one cow-house on the Council's register and
the annual licence in respect of this was renewed during the year.

Particulars of these premises are given below:β€”

Thirty-seven inspections of the cow-houses were made during
1938, and no nuisances or contraventions of the Order recpiiring
formal action were observed.
The number of visits paid to the dairies and milkshops was
1,564. There were 15 instances in which it was necessary to serve
notices regarding contraventions of the Milk and Dairies Order.
Milk (Special Designations) Order, 1936.β€”In accordance with
the provisions of this Order the Special designations which may be
used in relation to milk are "Tuberculin Tested," "Accredited"
and "Pasteurised."
Tuberculin Tested milk may be pasteurised, but if so treated
must be described as "Tuberculin Tested (Pasteurised)," and
Tuberculin Tested milk bottled on the farm where it is produced
may be described as ' 'Tuberculin Tested (Certified).''
The Order prescribes certain standards to which these grades
of milk should conform and bacteriological tests by which they
shall be examined.
The licences granted under the Order by this Council and in
force during the year 1938 were:β€”
Licences to sell milk as "Tuberculin Tested β€”
(a) Licences in respect of an establishment at which
the milk is bottled 2
(b) Licences in respect of premises in the Borough
at or from which the milk is sold 18
(c) Supplementary licences to sell milk from
premises outside the Borough 2
