During 1936 the Health Visitors and Infant Life Protection
Visitor referred 19 cases to the Society's Inspector, 17 cases in which
neglect was alleged and two in which the advice of the Inspector
was sought. In one of these cases Police Court proceedings were
taken by the Society and the mother was found guilty of gross
neglect. Her child was removed to the care of the London County
Council. In the cases where proceedings were not taken, improvement
in the care of the children rendered it unnecessary to take such
proceedings.
A table showing the visits made by the Health Visitors and
the attendances of these officers at the Infant Welfare Centres and
other clinics during the year appears on pages 60 and 61.
