Infectious Diseases.—The occupied dwellings inspected during
the year after infectious disease numbered 1,254. Any nuisances
or sanitary defects found were dealt with under the provisions of
the above Act.
Inspections other than on Complaint.—The number of inspections,
other than those arising on complaint, after infectious
disease, and under the Housing and Town Planning Regulations,
made by the Inspectors during the year was 3,789, and the nuisances
or sanitary defects found were dealt with in the same manner as
those on complaint.
Nuisances or defects found on inspection were remedied in most
cases on service of an intimation notice only. The total number of
such notices served during 1935 was 5,036. The number of statutory
notices served was 1,606; and summonses were issued in 78 cases.
Offensive Trades.—An application was submitted during the
year for sanction to establish anew the business of a slaughterer of
poultry at 164, Stamford Hill. This was considered together with
objections on behalf of the freeholder and various residents in the
neighbourhood of the proposed poultry slaughterhouse and was
refused, as also was a similar application submitted subsequently
by a relative of the first applicant in respect of the same premises.
An application for permission to establish anew a similar
business at 47, Ridley Road was also refused following the hearing
of objections on behalf of 61 residents in Ridley Road and the
Trustees of the Estate.
Sanction was also withheld in the case of an application for
permission to establish anew the business of a fur skin dresser at
the Victory Works, Mount Pleasant Hill.
The offensive businesses carried on in the Borough at the end
of the year were—fur skin dressers 8, poultry slaughterers 3.
Forty-five inspections were made of these premises during the
year and no contraventions of the By-laws relating to the conduct
of businesses were noted.
