Diarrhoea.—The total number of deaths from this cause was
23, and of these 21 were under one year of age. The number of
deaths from this disease in 1934 was 38. The annual mortalityrate
for diarrhoea and enteritis during the year is 0.109 per 1,000
inhabitants.
Whooping Cough.—The deaths from this cause during the year
numbered 4. This is a decrease of 3 upon the number registered
during 1934. All of these deaths occurred in children under five
years of age. The mortality for Hackney is equal to 0.019 per 1,000
inhabitants, and that for London 0.04 per 1,000 inhabitants. The
nurses of the Hackney District Nursing Association attended 8 cases
and paid 160 visits.
Information was received from the headmasters and headmistresses
of elementary schools in Hackney of 450 cases occurring
among their scholars during the year, whilst 81 cases came to the
knowledge of the Department from other sources.

Cancer.—There were 357 deaths during 1935 due to malignant
disease. This is a decrease of one upon the number registered
during 1934. The mortality-rate from malignant disease for last
year was, therefore, 1.69 per 1,000 inhabitants.
