Thirty-six inspections were made of the cow-houses during
1934, and no nuisances or contraventions of the Order requiring
formal action were observed, but it was necessary to secure the rebuilding
of one cow-house, as it was becoming a dangerous structure.
The number of visits paid to the dairies and milkshops was
475. There were 8 instances in which it was necessary to serve
notices regarding the use of dirty utensils and 23 notices were served
requiring the cleansing or repairing of premises used as dairies.
Proceedings were authorised in two instances during the year
against milk vendors for contraventions of the Milk and Dairies
Order, 1926, and the Milk and Dairies (Consolidation) Act, 1915,
respectively. The first summons, for using as a dairy premises which
had not been registered for that purpose, was withdrawn upon payment
of £3 3s. costs and the defendant giving an undertaking not
to use the premises as a dairy. The second summons, for selling
milk from a vehicle which was not inscribed with the name and
address of the registered dairyman, was dismissed under the Probation
of Offenders Act upon payment of £1 1s. costs.
