MARRIAGES AND MARRIAGE.RATES.
During 1934 there were 1,995 marriages solemnised in the
Borough of Hackney. The rate for persons married during this
period is therefore 18.8 per 1,000 of the population.
The following table gives the number of marriages and marriage.rates for the Borough of Hackney and London during the years 1924.34:—

BIRTHS AND BIRTH.RATE.
The births of living infants registered in the Borough of
Hackney during the year 1934 numbered 3,686, of which 1,876 were
males and 1,810 females. The total shows a decrease of 24 compared
with the number registered during 1933, but of these a certain
number must be transferred to other districts, and certain births,
which occurred in outlying districts, must be transferred to Hackney
in order to get an accurate birth.rate for the Borough. The
Registrar.General has supplied the number of these transferable
oirths, viz., 1,404 births to be transferred to other districts, and
731 to Hackney. After these necessary corrections have been made,
the correct total of registered births amongst Hackney residents
is 3,013.
The large number of births occurring in the Borough to women
who do not normally reside in the area is accounted for by the fact
that the Salvation Army Mothers' Hospital is situated within the
district. During 1934 no less than 1,619 infants were born in this
Institution. Of this number, 1,202 were transferable to districts
outside Hackney.
