Residential Treatment of Tuberculosis.—The treatment of
tuberculous persons in residential institutions is provided by the
London County Council under its tuberculosis scheme. During the
year under review the County Council decided to abolish the practice
of requiring patients or their families to contribute according to their
means towards the cost of maintenance and treatment in residential
institutions. Contributions are, however, still accepted when they
are offered voluntarily. Enquiries are still made by the
Tuberculosis Care Committee as to the financial position of patients
about to undergo residential treatment, as this information is of
value in determining the period of treatment to be given and enables
the Care Committee to render without delay such assistance as may
be required by patients in securing articles of clothing needed during
treatment or to assist dependents in arranging their financial affairs.

The number of persons who received residential treatment during the year under the County Council's tuberculosis scheme i? given below:—
