Erysipelas.—There were 119 cases of erysipelas notified during
1934. This is equal to an attack-rate of 0.56 per 1,000 inhabitants
compared with 0.51 for England and Wales. Of the 119 cases
notified, 96 were removed to hospital.
There were 13 deaths certified to be due to erysipelas.
Cerebro-spinal Meningitis.—During 1934 there were 5 cases of
this disease notified in the Borough; all the cases were removed to
hospital. Three deaths from this disease occurred during the year.
Polio-myelitis.—Four cases of polio-myelitis were notified in the
Borough during 1934. All of the patients were removed to hospital
and were still under treatment at the end of the year.

Ophthalmia Neonatorum.—During the year there were:—

and infant left the Borough and could not be traced.
Encephalitis Lethargica.—Two cases of this disease were
notified during the year. One patient was removed to hospital for
treatment. Both patients made a good recovery.
Influenzal Pneumonia and Pneumonia.—There were 18 cases
of influenzal pneumonia and 198 of primary pneumonia notified.
As provided in the Regulations, where the nursing was found to
be inadequate a nurse was sent from the Hackney District Nursing
Association, in accordance with an arrangement made with the
Superintendent at a fee of 1s. 3d. per visit. During the year 31
cases were nursed and 539 visits were paid to those cases. Influenza,
unless complicated by pneumonia, is not notifiable.
Malaria.—Two cases of this disease were notified during the
year.
Dysentery.—One case of this disease was notified during the
year.
