Offensive Trades.
The duties under the Public Health (London) Act, 1891, and the
London County Council (General Powers) Act, 1930, with regard to
the consideration and decision upon applications for sanction to the
establishment anew or the enlargement of certain offensive businesses,
or the imposition, modification or removal of conditions in connection
with such businesses, were transferred from the London County
Council to the Metropolitan Borough Councils during the year under
the Transfer of Powers (London) Order, 1933.
An application for the establishment anew of the business of a
fur skin dresser at premises in the Borough known as the Invicta
Works, Windus Road, was considered during the year. An objection
to the granting of the Council's sanction was entered. The applicant
failed on two occasions to attend at the Town Hall to support his
application, which was accordingly not granted.
The offensive businesses carried on in the Borough at the end
of the year were—fur skin dressers 13, poultry slaughterers 3.
Fifty-one inspections were made of these premises during the
year and no contraventions of the By-laws relating to the conduct
of businesses were noted.
Common Lodging Houses.
The duties in connection with the licensing, inspection and
regulation of common lodging houses and the enforcement of the
By-laws regulating such houses were transferred froin the London
County Council to the Metropolitan Borough Councils as from
1st April, 1933.
The number of visits paid to the common lodging houses during
the period from 1st April to 31st December, 1933, was 39.
