Observations on the Skin.—Erythema is not aimed at. In
those cases which have shown Erythema (in each case fair-haired
children) the results have not been good. One child in particular
had to give up treatment, as, although the mother was very anxious
for the child to have it, she appeared to be light-sensitive, and
definitely became languid and lost weight even with small doses,
recovering her tqne when the light treatment was stopped for two
periods. Pigmentation only occurs definitely in a few cases, those
being dark-haired children with a rather coarse complexion.
Effect of Light on Local Lesions.—Dramatic result in impetigo
and some cases of eczema and acne.
Special Improvement noted, in Particular Cases:—
C.F., aged 7 months—Marasmus. Breast-fed to 2 months,
then milk and water to 5£ months, when he came under the care
of the Centre. Was put on dried milk and cod liver oil and malt
with little improvement for six weeks before beginning light
treatment. He then at 7 months weighed 10 lbs. loozs. Had
14 treatments and part of this time the dried milk was also irradiated.
He gained 6 lbs. and at 10½ months was in splendid
condition.
D.S., aged 9 months—Marasmus and Chronic Dyspepsia.
Was on dried milk and Virol and attended Centre regularly.
Weighed 14½ lbs. With 11 treatments he gained 6lbs. 14½ozs.
and digestion became normal, and he was a thoroughly healthy
baby.
B.B., aged H years—Rickets. Had been fed on dried milk
from birth to 1 year with no cod liver oil. Very marked bow-legs.
Cured with 17 treatments.
D.J., aged 3¾ yearsi—Malnutrition. She was a pale, very
nervous and fretful child. With 12 treatments she was a different
child—a good colour, quiet, cheerful, eating and sleeping well.
A.B., aged 2¾ years—Debility after Influenza. Had lost 9
ozs. during previous 3 months. With 5 treatments she berame
fit and strong and gained 2 lbs.
