The Public Health (Preservatives in Food) Regulations, and the
Public Health (Preservatives in Food) Amending Regulations, 1926,
regulating the use of chemical preservatives in certain foods, came
into force during the year.
The amount of Foodstuffs Seized or Surrendered during the
year amounted to 9 tons.
The River Lea has remained, during the past year, in the usual
offensive condition.

Severe floodings occurred in Hackney as the result of a storm that occurred on the 1st September, the following premises being-most severely affected:—

Marsh Hill:—
Nos. 60 to 68.Water in ground floor front and back rooms and back yards, 6 inches deep. On pavement, 6ins. deep.
Nos. 34 to 48.Water in back yards, 4ins. deep.
Durrington R Dad:—
Nos. 37 to 47.Water in kitchens and sculleries. 4ins. deep.
No. 62.Water in back yard and front area, 3 ins. deep.
No. 66Water in basement front and back rooms, 1 in. deep. Water in back yard, 3ins. deep.
Theydon Read:—
Nos. 2 and 3j- Areas flooded with sewage. 1

14 and 15
20 and 21
Prince Edward Road:—
Nos. 56 to 82 (14 houses)Flooded under and over floors to depth of 6ins. Sewage and faecal matter lying in houses and over the road.
Berkshire Road:—
No-. 70 to 100 (16 houses)Flooded to a depth of 18 inches in re?ir. Sewage and refuse over floors and roadway. Flood depth in front 9ins.
Nos 102 to 110 (5 houses)Flooded to a depth of 13ins. in rear. Sewage and fa;ces over floors and vard. Chickens drowned.
Berkshire Terrace:—
Nos. 1 to 6 (6 houses)Yards and sculleries flooded—sewage. Fn?ces over vards.
wallis Road:—
Nos. 47, 49, 51.Flooded to depth of 12ins. over floors. Sewage over floors.
Bridge Street, Homerton:—
Nos. 21, 23, 25, 27.Water in ground floors 1ft. 6ins. to 2ft. deep.
Chatswortli Road:—
Nos. 126 to 148 and 107.Basements and yards flooded—sewage left after water subsided. 1ft. 6ins. deeo.
Prince Edward Road:—
Nos. 2 to 22.Damage to furniture, linoleum and clothing.
