Drainage.
Plans for reconstruction of drains under notice and supervision
of the Sanitary Inspectors at 106 premises were reported
to the Public Health Committee during the year.
Smoke Nuisance.
In addition to 235 observations of chimneys of large works
in the Borough made by the Sanitary Inspectors, 746 observations
were made by an Assistant detailed for that purpose.
33 notices were served on the persons responsible for the issue of
black smoke in contravention of the Public Health (London) Act,
1891.
Dangerous Structures.
Complaints of alleged dangerous structures at 230 premises
were forwarded to the London County Council during the year.
Water Fittings.
Complaints of defective water fittings at 120 premises were
forwarded to the Metropolitan Water Board during the year.
Dust Receptacles.
During the year 719 complaints were received from the
Borough Engineer and Surveyor, of houses without dust bins,
or with defective dust bins.
These complaints were dealt with by the service of 532
informal notices and 105 statutory notices.
Food Premises.
1,142 visits were made during the year by the Food Inspector
and the District Sanitary Inspectors to places (other than milk
premises and slaughterhouses) where food is sold or prepared for
sale.
In 36 cases notices had to be served to have defects that
were found to exist at time of visit remedied.
