Diarrhoea.— There was an increase in the number of deaths
due to diarrhoeal disease in the Borough during 1924. The total
number of deaths from this cause was 18, and of these 15 were
under 1 year of age. The annual mortality rate for diarrhoea
and enteritis during the year is 0 08 per 1,000 inhabitants.
Whooping Cough.— The deaths from this cause during the
year numbered 16. This is an increase of 2 upon the number
registered during 1923. All of the deaths occurred in children
under five years of age. The mortality for Hackney is equal
to 07 per 1,000 inhabitants, and that for all London, 11 per
1,000 inhabitants. The King's Home for Nurses attended to
11 cases and paid 334 visits.
Information was received from the head masters and head
mistresses of elementary schools in Hackney of 523 cases of
whooping cough occurring among their scholars during the year.
CONSTITUTIONAL DISEASES.

Cancer.— There were 310 deaths during 1924 due to the
different varieties of malignant disease. This is an increase of
7 on the number registered during 1923. The annual mortality
rate from malignant disease for last year is therefore 136 per
1,000 inhabitants.
