Illegitimate Births and Birth-rate.— The total number of
illegitimate births registered in the Borough during the year 1921
was 334, but of these, the Registrar-General states that 243
should be transferred to districts outside the Borough, as the
mothers were not Hackney residents, and 27 births which took
place in other districts, should be transferred to Hackney. These
corrections having been made, there remain 118 illegitimate
births amongst Hackney residents. This is equivalent to an
illegitimate birth-rate of 28.0 per 1,000 births.
