the outworkers having left the premises (307), or having given up
homework (61), or being out at the time of visit (110), or owing to
a wrong address being given (59), or the premises being workshops
(23), or male workers only being employed.
During her visits Miss Portlock discovered 651 sanitary defects.
For the abatement of these she served 348 intimation notices
and 35 final notices. Of the 1,029 premises inspected, in 77 only
was a room set apart entirely for work. In the remainder, work
was carried on in rooms used for other purposes, as set out below
