Medical Officer of Health to the Insurance Committee, that domiciliary
treatment is the most suitable for such cases. The Insurance
Committee will instruct the Medical Officer of Health to arrange
with the medical practitioner for home treatment.
The medical practitioner will treat his patient as a private
patient, providing where necessary medicines, and applying in suitable
cases the tuberculin treatment. He will have the opportunity
of consulting with the Tuberculosis Officer as to the treatment to
be carried out. If any change of treatment is thought desirable,
such as Hospital or Sanatorium treatment, the medical practitioner
will consult the Tuberculosis Olficer on this point, who, if he is
of the same opinion, will recommend this change of treatment
through the Medical Officer of Health to the Insurance Committee.
If, owing to social and domestic circumstances, the patient
requires a separate bed or special forms of food or nourishment,
the medical attendant will make requisition for the same to the
Medical Officer of Health, who will be empowered in urgent cases
by the Insurance Committee, to arrange for their supply. The
Committee may require a report from the Medical Officer of Health
before authorising the supply of these articles ; but, I think in urgent
cases, the Medical Officer of Health should be empowered to obtain
then when circumstances are urgent, reporting his action at each
meeting of the Committee. The Tuberculosis Officer in like manner
may make requisition for these necessary articles.
The medical practitioner will not only treat each case medically,
but he will also give the patient instruction with regard to coughing
and expectorating, and the precautions necessary to be taken to
prevent the conveyance of infection to other persons.
The medical practitioner will render, at stated intervals, reports
of the progress of the cases of tuberculosis, under his care, to the
Medical Officer of Health for transmission to the Insurance Committee.
The Tuberculosis Officer will do likewise with respect to
cases under his care.
