The above synopsis of the structural sanitary works, carried out
under the orders of the Sanitary Staff since 1856, was prepared
for a return to the Metropolitan Board of Works. It shows
that since the passing of the "Metropolis Local Management
Act," there have been 5,331 cesspools emptied and filled up, and
proper water closets erected and connected with the sewers of the
Board. That 34,434 orders for the cleansing and repair of
inhabited houses in the District have been issued and enforced;
