with Sugar and Cocoa. Of course an article like this is
comparatively valueless as a food, as the quantity of Arrowroot
used for making a cup of Cocoa would scarcely have greater
nutritive value than a mouthful of bread and butter, whilst
that of the Cocoa would be equally infinitesimal; one of the
"Soluble Cocoas" contained as nearly as I could ascertain
about 20 per cent of Cocoa, the others varying from 15 to
10 per cent. The two samples of Oatmeal were genuine, also
the two of Mustard, but one was a mixture of about 50 per cent.
of flour with a little tumeric and cayenne. My certificate was
objected to, as the vendor asserted that the Mustard was genuine,
but on being analysed by another analyst, nominated by the
vendor and approved by me, my analysis was found to be
correct, the defendant was therefore fined 5s. and costs and
had to pay his analyst's fee.
I remain, Gentlemen,
Obediently Yours,
JOHN W. TRIPE, M.D.,
Public Analyst for the Hackney District.
Received and ordered to be printed,
JOHN KELDAY,
Chairman.
