It will be seen that Hackney sub-division, Stoke Newington,
West Hackney, Stamford Hill, Kingsland and Clapton,
which includes the Clapton Park Estate, suffered much less in
1878 than in 1877, whilst South Hackney, Dalston and Hackney
Wick, have had a proportionately larger number of cases, when
the totals are considered, than in 1877.
The following list of articles, disinfected at the disinfecting
chamber of the Board during the year, were received from;329
houses in which small-pox or other infectious diseases had
occurred, and the result of the disinfection is very satisfactory,
for except when the disease re-appeared within the incubative
period no second case occurred in the same house.

The cost of disinfection was as follows:—wages of the two
men engaged, £9S 4s.; for coal and coke, £10 7s. 8d; petty
expenses, £5 10s. 6d., and about £15 for disinfectants supplied
to poor persons for use in the houses, and for drains and water
