the air was drier than usual. The rainfall in July and
September was small, viz. 3.5 inches, but in August it was 2.9
inches, so that the deficiency for the summer was one inch for
the three months. One result of this deficiency in the mean
temperature of July and September was that the ordinary
autumnal diarrhoea did not occur to the usual extent.
