The total number of houses inspected under the Sanitary
Act was 5,168, of which, 3,309 were found to be wanting in one
or more of the requirements necessary to make a house a fit and
proper place to dwell in. I think no other comment on the
working of the Sanitary Act in this District is necessary.
During the year there have been 41 dead bodies removed
to the Mortuary. The causes of death were as follows: smallpox,
3; fever, 3; drowning, 17; newly-born, 11; accidental, 2;
