to a study of the various Acts of Parliament bearing on
Sanitary matters, and to the preparation of the forms of notices
and orders now requisite for enforcing the removal of nuisances,
overcrowding, &c. As before mentioned, we took out 74
summonses during 1867, and obtained no less than 71 orders
from the Magistrates, so that we failed in 3 cases only.
I may mention here, that the disinfection of premises in
which epidemic disease broke out, was performed by Mr.
Jones at least once on each premises, so as to teach the
inhabitants how to use the carbolate of lime, and that a small
quantity of the powder has been supplied to every person who
could not afford to purchase it.
I cannot conclude this report without stating that all the
officers in the Sanitary department have fulfilled their duties
to my entire satisfaction, and I believe, also, to the satisfaction
of the Sanitary Committee. I have also to express my great
regret at the death of Mr. Valentine, the chief sanitary
Inspector, which took place this year.
I remain, Gentlemen,
Yours obediently,
JOHN W. TRIPE, M.D.
Received and adopted 1st June, 1868.
J. J. Tanner,
Chairman.
