The ages at death differed in 1867 but little from the
average for Hackney; but there was a slight excess of mortality
in children under 1 year old, the rate having been 24.8 per
cent. of the total mortality against about 24 per cent. There
were 536 deaths of children under 1 year; 337 of children
above 1 year and under 5 years of age; 91 between 5 and 15
years old; 127 between 15 and 25 years; 144 between 25 and
35; 184 between 35 and 45; 173 between 45 and 55; 168
between 55 and 65; 225 between 65 and 75; 204 between 75
and 85; 50 between 85 and 95; and 3 above 95 years of age.
The number of deaths at 80 and above were as follows: 21 at
80 years of age; 13 at 81; 12 at 82; 9 at 83; 14 at 84; 6 at
85; 12 at 86; 8 at 87; 8 at 88; 4 at 89; 4 at 90; 5 at 91;
3 at 92; and 3 at 95. The average age at death was 33 years
7 months (of 30 days each) and 6 days.
In addition to my attendances at the Board meetings, I
have attended 46 meetings of the Sanitary Committee; and
have submitted to them 575 orders for proceedings to be taken
chiefly against owners of property to abate nuisances,
or to disinfect premises. These 575 orders referred to more
than 1,000 houses or premises, and included, amongst others;
orders for proceedings against the owners of Goodson's dust
