I now give a table of the number of births ant deaths in Hackney for the last twenty years, the rate of births to deaths, the rate of deaths in each 10,000 inhabitants for London and Hackney during the same period, also the number of houses in St. John's a Hackney, and St. Mary, Stoke Newington, in 1851 1861, and 1867.

This table shews that with the exception of the year
1853, the number of births in the district has increased
annually, sometimes at a smaller, but at other times at
a greater rate. The number of births in 1866 was
more than double that for 1847, having been 3508
against 1527; and also the deaths, which amounted to
2394 in 1866 against 1128 in 1847. The average rate
