Since my Annual Report has been in print I have received a return of the recent Census enumeration, which shows the population of the Parish of St. Luke to be 41,527, and a decrease upon the Census of 1891 of 913. For the several districts the figures are as follows:—
1896. | 1891. | |
---|---|---|
City Road Registration District | 29,897 | 29,177 |
Whitecross Street Registration District | 7,595 | 8,278 |
Finsbury Registration District | 4,035 | 4,985 |
Total | 41,527 | 42,440 |
It will be seen that while the population of the City Road Registration
District has increased since the Census of 1891 to the extent of 760 persons,
both the other districts show a decrease. Whitecross Street to the extent
of 683, and Finsbury as much as 950.
LONDON
The population of Registration London is given as 4,411,271; at the
Census of 1891 it stood at 4,211,743, and shows an increase therefore of
199,528, but is 14,463 less than the estimate which was in use by the
Registrar-General, based upon the enumerations of 1881 and 1891.
G. E. YARROW,
Medical Officer of Health.
