of 0.83 per 1000 living, a rate of 0.15 per 1000 above the average
for 10 years, and higher than any year since 1887.
Influenza.—The number of deaths certified from this cause
during the year amounted to 9, whereas during the year 1894
only two deaths were so recorded. The deaths due to Pneumonia
and Bronchitis numbered 326, against 248 for the preceding
year, and in a notable number of instances Influenza was said to
be a secondary cause of death amongst the cases certified under
these headings.
