5. FINDINGS OF MEDICAL INSPECTION
(a) Malnutrition.

The following table gives the classification of the nutrition of the children inspected during the year 1941 in the routine ago groups:-

(b) Cleanliness .
The cleansing of heads and the treatment of scabies was carried out
at the Town Hall Clinic, as in previous years. The number of individual
children cleansed were 953. There was an increase in the number of
children suffering from scabies.
(c) Minor Ailments and Diseases of the Skin.
There was only one clinic in the district for the treatment of
Minor Ailments during 1941 and that was the Croyland Road Clinic. The
attendances for the year were 14382.
(d) Visual Defects and External Eye Diseases.
The Ophthalmic Clinic continued to be run on similar lines, as in
previous years. The Clinic being held at the Central Hall, Fore Street,
Edmonton, N.9. Statistics are given at the end of this report.
(e) Nose and Throat Defects and (f) ear disease and Defective Hearing.
The Aural Clinic was hold at the Croyland Road Clinic on the fourth
Friday of each month. Towards the end of the year, Mr. Ibbotson, the
Aural Specialist, attended the Clinic on the second and fourth Friday
of the month. One of my Assistants held the. Clinic weekly 5-n order to
keep the cases under obserration.
Children recommended for the removal of their tonsils and/or adenoids
were admitted to the Australasian Hospital, Barkingside for this operatior
The number of children operated on during the year were 172.
During the year Mr. Ibbotson saw 188 New Cases and 133 Old cases.
Cases of speech defect were referred to the Speech Clinic under the
care of Miss B. N. Oldrey, Speech Therapist.
(g) Dental Defects.
The treatment of dental defects were carried out at the Croyland
Road and Hazelbury Dental Clinics. Particulars of attendances, etc. are
given at the end of the report.
(h) Orthopaedic and Postural Defects.
Orthopaedic defects were, as in previous years, treated at the Special
Clinic held at the Central Hall, Fore Street, N.O. The Orthopaedic
Specialist, Mr. J. A. Cholmeley, F.R.C.S. attended the Clinic once monthly,
and Miss Walker, the Masseuse attended on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday
and Friday mornings.
During the year under review 82 New cases were seen by the Specialist
and the total attendances wore as follows:-
