The Council authorised the exhibition of posters drawing the attention of the
public to the fact that various typos of immunisation were available to those who
wished voluntarily to avail themselves of those services.
Sanction was subsequently received from the Ministry of Health for facilities
being provided for immunisation against Whooping cough, Scarlct fever and Measles
under Section 177 (1) of the Public Health Act, 1936.
DIPTHERIA
As anticipated last year, the result of more extensive propaganda, including
poster displays, press notices, etc. throughout the Borough, has been a far
greater demand for this treatment, necessitating extra clinics being held.
During the year, 3,102 children completed treatment under the Council's arrangements;
of these, 1,404 were under 5 years of age. 46 children were Schick
tested. In 1940, 460 children completed immunisation treatment.
A number of requests were received from local medical practitioners for
immunising material and the Council agreed to supply the same for the treatment
of Edmonton children, subject to the doctors signing a statement that the
material would be supplied to the patient free of charge.
MEASLES
Measles Immune G lobulin was issued to general practitioners in accordance
with the Council's resolution quoted in my report for 1940. 17 x 2 c.cs. were
issued during the year.
WHOOPING COUGH
In accordance with the resolution quoted above, Edmonton children are immunised
against Whooping cough. The material used is 'Vaccine A', and during the year 215

is carried out at the Council's clinics.
