In each of the above instances warning letters were addressed to the Master of the vessels
concerned and, in the case of the m.v. 'Adeny', a warning letter was also sent to the owner of
the dog who was a member of the crew. Letters were also sent to the Agents for the 'Adeny'
and 'Troyberg' requesting them to bring the Order to the notice of Masters of all vessels for
whom they act.
In September proceedings were instituted against an owner for bringing a cat into this
country in contravention of the above Order. The defendant pleaded guilty and was fined £10
with 5 guineas costs.
Rabies Order 1938
Under the terms of the above Order two notices were served on owners of a dog and cat
requiring them to detain and isolate their animals. In the case of the cat the notice was withdrawn
after the ten day period. The dog, which was in a quarantine kennel, was destroyed at
the owners request.
Animals (Sea Transport) Order 1930 and Horses (Sea Transport) Order 1952
Under the terms of the above Orders visits were made to docks in connection with the exportation
of animals to various countries. The animals comprised 14 horses, 20 cattle, 23 pigs
and 5 sheep and the reasons for export were for breeding purposes except in two cases which
were for exhibition purposes.
Export Certificates
152 health certificates were issued to 22 firms, enabling them to export various commodities.
Also health certificates were issued for 2 dogs, 3 pigs and 12 canaries.

THE LORD MAYOR S PROCESSION
The theme of this years Lord Mayor's Pageant was 'London River - Sea Highway to the
World'. It comprised 23 floats representing British Shipping companies and organisations and
institutions connected with shipping.
