The demand for further copies of this Letter for transmission to Shipowners on
the Continent and to the Masters of ships was so great that it was necessary to have
the Letter printed. About 600 copies were sent out, and* the result was an immediate
request for Certificates.
SMALL-POX CONTACTS PROCEEDING ABROAD.
Ministry of Health Circular, 1,021, date 8th July, 1929.
When persons who have been in direct contact with cases of Small-pox intend to
proceed to destinations abroad before the incubation period of the disease has elapsed,
it is desirable that the appropriate Public Health Authorities of the country to which
such persons are proceeding should be notified, in order that they may be kept under
medical supervision for the necessary period. The Ministry of Health, therefore,
request to be supplied with the following particulars referring to such contacts :—
(а) Full name and address.
(б) Last probable date of exposure to infection.
(c) Address of destination abroad.
(d) Intended date of arrival at address abroad.
(e) Probable duration of stay abroad.
(/) Vaccinal condition.
The Ministry of Health will forward the information to the appropriate Public
Health Authority abroad.

Medical Inspection of Aliens.
The arrival of aliens in the Port of London is fairly constant, the principal
sources being:—
From Dunkirk 1 vessel daily.

(a) Certificate that an Alien is a lunatic, idiot or mentally deficient
(ib) Certificate that, for medical reasons, it is undesirable that an Alien should be permitted to land
