Early in May a service of passenger boats carrying aliens between Dunkirk and
Tilbury Dock was introduced, the vessels arriving at about 6 a.m. daily.
Under the circumstances, it became necessary to revert to the arrangement which
formerly obtained in the Port of London, by which a Medical Officer was free from
ordinary boarding duty and whose services were utilised for alien examination and
other work. This necessitated the temporary appointment of another Assistant
Medical Officer.
In connection with this service an efficient shed for inspections, with offices for
the Medical Officer, was erected in the Tilbury Basin shed adjacent by the Port of
London Authority.
